Wanzl: first place in the Best Retailer Award

Hotel mini-market wins in store concept segment

At the Best Retailer Awards ceremony in Cologne on 17 September 2024, Wanzl Hotel Service won the 'Store Concept' category with its mini-market solution in the lobby of the c/o56 Hotel. The 'C/onsum56' self-service shop concept developed by Wanzl convinced in all aspects: The flexible and autonomous shopping concept gives both hotel guests and residents access to a wide range of products around the clock. Payment can be made either via digital self-checkout or at reception. There is no need for cash or a special app. The hotel shop won over not only the 15-member jury, but also the 1,950 users. For Markus Spengler, Senior Vice President Sales Hotel & Material Handling, this award is particularly meaningful: "For the Best Retailer Award, a jury of experts and users independently select the best application examples. We are therefore all the more pleased that our mini-market solution for the c/o56 Hotel was a hit with everyone." To win the Best Retailer Award, applicants must not only have an innovative approach, but also be able to demonstrate impressive results.

Groundbreaking technology and creative solutions that revolutionise retail and put customers first: Each year, the Best Retailer Award is presented to the concept that best meets these requirements. The awards recognise outstanding implementation and provide retailers with valuable insights into the possibilities of differentiated positioning in various areas. The patron and host is the association Location Based Marketing Association e.V. (LBMA), based in Erding, Bavaria. It is also behind the 'Best Retail Cases' database, which collects and showcases more than 200 successfully implemented use case stories from vendors and their customers in the retail trade. This provided Wanzl Hotel Services with the opportunity to establish itself with a hotel shop for the first time. "Retail trade can make a significant contribution to a hotel's success. When a hotel has its own mini-market, guests can do their shopping directly at the hotel. This means a significant increase in service and quality of stay for guests, while the hotel can generate additional sales," says Spengler. When designing such a shop, Wanzl always focuses on a target group-oriented product range and a systems-based modular design of the shop furniture. Hoteliers benefit from the extensive expertise of a leading international partner in global commerce.
