Experiencing training first-hand at Wanzl

Scores of young people visit Training Centre Open Day

Kirchheim (pm). At the end of November, Wanzl opened the doors to its plant in Kirchheim as part of the Training Centre Open Day, giving visitors an insight into skilled professions such as precision and industrial engineers, machine and plant operators and electronics engineers in industrial engineering. Held over the course of a Saturday morning, young people who were interested in one of these careers as well as their parents had the opportunity to get a taste of everyday working life, experience the professions first-hand, find out more information and gain new insights. The Wanzl trainees prepared the open day themselves, supported by their trainers, and made sure that there was plenty on offer. In the foyer, information stands from Wanzl and the Arbeitsamt (German Employment Agency) welcomed the pupils and their parents, and provided initial information on internships, training and the application process. Visitors then made their way to the Production area with its state-of-the-art CNC machine pool and workstations, and saw how skilful craftsmanship, technical expertise and exceptional precision are indispensable here. The Wanzl trainees explained to the young visitors how the machines work and held a number of demonstrations to showcase their skills in welding, milling and electronics.

“The visitors' first experience was with people their own age," explains trainer Rudolf Pelikan as he sums up the day. He also provided initial in-depth advice to visitors together with his colleagues Josef Mayr, Manfred Leinsle and Rosemarie Schmid. Rosemarie Schmid comments: "We are, of course, delighted to receive applications for the technical and industrial training paths at Wanzl."Karl-Heinz Horn, Plant Manager at Wanzl Kirchheim, and Production Manager Pius Waldmann were also present at the open day. "The high visitor numbers confirm our idea that trainees are the best mentors for young people interested in these careers," says Karl-Heinz Horn. The first pupils have already registered for internships next year. After the informative tour of the Wanzl plant, Wanzl trainees organised refreshments including sausages and drinks.
