When Hamburg was still the German football champion

The guests of the anniversary celebrations of Wanzl Metallwarenfabrik GmbH were treated to an entertaining evening on Friday, 29 November at Landgasthof Waldvogel in Leipheim. It has become a well-established tradition at Wanzl to reward long-serving, deserving employees for their commitment and loyalty to the company at the end of the year. Both Gottfried Wanzl, Chairman of the Supervisory Board and Dr Klaus Meier-Kortwig, CEO, did not hesitate to express their gratitude in person.

In his speech, Gottfried Wanzl emphasised Wanzl's solid foundations, excellent image and strong position in the market, but also warned that these could only be secured by means of joint efforts and far-sighted decisions. The highlight was his journey back in time to the early years of those celebrating their work anniversaries. Gottfried Wanzl took the employees honoured back in time by detailing memorable events such as the Nelson Mandela’s election as President of South Africa in 1994. His remark that 40 years ago, the Hamburg sports club had been German football champion, while today the club is fighting to regain its position in the highest division, caused some amusement. This was a stark reminder of how times change. In conclusion, Gottfried Wanzl expressly thanked those celebrating their work anniversaries for their services to Wanzl. Dr Klaus Meier-Kortwig also praised the loyalty and significant contribution made by the guests of honour to Wanzl's rise as a global player. The outstanding performance of the entire company in labour-intensive phases is a unique triumph that must be maintained in 2020. The new year will start with a highlight, the leading international trade fair for the retail industry, EuroShop in mid-February, where Wanzl will once again present itself as a pioneer in the industry. In general, the company is looking positively to the future. But of course, the focus this evening was on those celebrating a work anniversary. Countless anecdotes were exchanged until late in the evening.
