The FastLaner® concept: the future of shopping in brick-and-mortar retail trade
From trolley removal to payment, the FastLaner, Wanzl’s new intelligent shopping trolley, takes digitalisation to the next level in retail trade. Its highlight is the smart handle unit with large touch screen, handheld scanner and charging contacts. Thanks to HybridLoc, it can be unlocked either manually with a coin or via a smartphone using the retailer app. Customers can now take full control of their purchases, scan their chosen items and, thanks to the display unit, always have a good overview of their shopping basket. When paying, they can choose between self-checkout, smartphone or bank card payment. This greatly reduces or even eliminates checkout wait times
It is also no longer necessary to move goods from the shopping trolley to the checkout belt. The items can be placed directly into shoppers’ own bags. For store operators, the FastLaner concept relieves a great deal of strain from staff and enables customers to be provided with additional information, special offers or coupons via POS or store apps. The FastLaner’s charging management system is unique. For this purpose, the trolley shelters are fitted with contact rails at the start of the row docking station and charging contacts on the side of the trolley handle of the smart shopping trolleys. The charging process starts automatically as soon as the FastLaner is parked in the smart charging station. No additional personnel allocation is necessary.

Wanzl has already implemented around 300 24/7 shop formats in practice and has continuously developed its concepts and solutions. The cloud-based wanzl connect® software platform acts as a digital control centre. It enables retailers to conveniently and efficiently monitor, analyse and control their business processes. The store management system has a modular design and offers store operators a wide variety of solutions for optimising operational processes, such as trolley shelter monitoring, RFID tracking of shopping trolleys and monitoring of entrance and exit systems. A basic requirement for 24/7 concepts is controlled access. The Access Terminal 2.0 ensures a regulated check-in process. Depending on the integrated reader unit, customers can use it to authenticate themselves using a customer card, app, debit or credit card. In order to make staff-free shopping even safer from the outset, reliable individual entry is a second essential component. For this purpose, Wanzl has optimised its stylish high-end Galaxy Gate® access gate to meet the needs of retail and has designed the Galaxy Gate® Lite. Wanzl digitises the fixtures and fittings in the store itself. Thanks to intelligent inventory measurement in the BakeOff i system, baking processes can be proactively controlled. The benefits are reduced food waste, optimised personnel allocation, avoidance of out-of-stock situations and increased gross profit. There is also an inventory meter in the wire tech 100 i. Sensors on the shelves precisely record up-to-date changes in stock levels, which not only prevents empty shelves, but also serves to detect possible theft. Furthermore, Wanzl is presenting a prototype of a display case with integrated age recognition
The fully automated Smart Exit is the evolution of the self-checkout zones we are familiar with. AI sensors record, verify and control all the processes, from entry, scanning and payment through to opening of the exit gates. Thanks to clearly arranged dashboards, you always have the perfect overview of events in the checkout area. With the self-checkout, Wanzl delivers the right, durable SCO furniture, and with the neoHub Terminal, a modular system for cashless payment, whether as a supplement to the classic SCO in the checkout zone or upstream of customer toilets. Wanzl also provides the optimal exit systems. The new Galaxyport Pro is particularly effective at combating theft thanks to its extra-high toughened safety glass swivel arms that are almost floor-deep. Another advantage is the flexible passage widths, which facilitate in-store installation. Thanks to its aesthetic design, it fits seamlessly into any room concept.
