Wanzl Metallwarenfabrik GmbH gave the voluntary fire service in Leipheim a wonderful gift just in time for Christmas. The Leipheim company put two new fognails under the firefighters’ Christmas tree. Jürgen Frank, Head of Marketing at Wanzl, and Ralf Maier, Fire Prevention Officer at Wanzl presented Martin Schmitz, First Commander of Leipheim’s voluntary fire service, with the in-kind donation.
“We are delighted to be able to support Leipheim’s voluntary fire service with these two fognails. For us as a company, it is of course very comforting to know that, in the event of an emergency, there is a well-equipped fire brigade right nearby. The recent history of Wanzl shows just how essential this is. In the great fire of 2012, it was not least the courageous and rapid deployment of the Leipzig fire brigade that prevented even greater damage," explains Jürgen Frank. His colleague, Ralf Maier, adds: “In my role as Fire Prevention Officer, I know how important fognails are. Production facilities in particular have places that are difficult to access, for example in paternoster warehouses, which require the use of fognails in the event of a fire.Fire expert, Martin Schmitz, explains: “Fognails are specially made steel tubes that can be driven through walls or doors in order to be able to fight fires in narrow gaps, utility shafts, false ceilings or similar directly with water. This reduces the danger for us as firefighters and facilitates rapid extinguishing, as we do not need large openings that would supply the fire with additional oxygen. We also use fognails in the private sector, for example to quickly reach fires in roof trusses. We are unable to cut through modern insulation materials with a motorised chain saw, but it is no problem for a fognail. We would therefore like to thank Wanzl expressly for their generous donation. We are now even better equipped to ensure safety in Leipheim and the surrounding area."
