The checkout area plays a key role in the shopping experience at brick-and-mortar stores. Customers should feel welcome throughout the store, particularly at the till. It is so much more than just a queuing area – the checkout is a place to indulge in the shopping experience, participate in impulse buying, and receive that extra bit of service. The best organised checkout areas save the customer time and, from a retailer’s perspective, mean optimum customer throughput with ideal personnel deployment.

Wanzl cash desks, developed in-house, create a completely new shopping experience in the checkout zone. To perfect the cash desk, Wanzl conducted a multitude of expert interviews with decision-makers in the retail trade, asking what the perfect checkout looks like. The customer’s wishes, expressed in those interviews, are now being incorporated into development: checkout attachment shelves, integrated cross-selling modules for refrigerated and hot convenience food, the smoked counter and displays for digital signage all come together to make the checkout a premium sales zone. Trolleys and shopping baskets park directly in the checkout area, after the goods are placed on the checkout conveyor. 

At EuroShop, Wanzl is presenting two cash desk design options for a premium shopping experience: "Basic" and "Design". Both models use a common platform that – depending on the required use – can be individually configured, converted and equipped, to precisely match the shopfitting CI. The material mix of wood and metal gives the cash desk a unique look. The double base provides plenty of space for the wiring of electrical components, and the option of retrofitting is available at any time. The base shelf with a rubber lip offers a neat end element, making daily cleaning along the table both easy and hygienic. Checkout staff value the ample legroom and enjoy the ergonomic workspace this creates.

Accessories to encourage impulse buying and for cross-selling

A closer look reveals many smart detailed solutions – these make the checkout zone a comfort zone, ensuring the goods presentation greatly encourages buying. Highlights include fully integrated shelves, and cool and hot cabinets for presenting convenience food ranges, offering fresh, ready-to-eat delights even as customers queue. Screens for digital signage convey advertising messages, informing and entertaining customers at the checkout. Checkout barriers and checkout guidance systems for customers are integrated in order to save space, representing ideal use of the available area. The long service life and high value of the components are part of the quality claim _MADE BY WANZL. If a service issue arises, it is possible to replace individual modules at any time. If the shopfitting CI changes, the cash desks can be tailored to the new look with options including a design upgrade.

The "Basic" cash desk design is a stylish and functional choice. The design and equipment can be uptraded in-store at any time, including after installation.
