Barcode scanner in the entry section, goods protection in the exit section – the combined eGate system at the self-checkout protects from inventory losses.
The eGate exit gate offers a maximum degree of safety, supports smooth processes in the check-out area, helps to reduce inventory losses and relieves check-out staff. Wanzl is presenting the combined eGate system with barcode scanner and goods protection for the self-checkout area for the first time.
Double the security: how self-checkouts work
As a first step, customers scan the goods using the upstream self-checkout stations. Once all items have been scanned and the goods have been paid for, the unit prints a barcode receipt which customers use in the eGate exit gate. Here, the integrated scanner identifies the barcode receipt and the system allows customers to pass. The goods security antenna then runs an additional, downstream item verification. The antenna may also be used as a stand-alone variant. The combined eGate system with barcode scanner and goods protection supports swift and safe self-checkouts, can be combined with self-scan stations and communicates with all checkout systems without the need for additional PCs. The combined eGate checkout system will be available from spring 2014.
