As in previous years, the Wanzl Group in Leipheim is once again showing its social commitment. In cooperation with the Lions Club Günzburg, the company traditionally supports a specially selected aid project of the Lions Hilfswerk relief organisation with a donation at Christmas time. Together, they are helping Zeltschule e. V. with its relief efforts in Lebanon and Syria this year. Zeltschule e. V. is a non-profit organisation that runs a total of 45 schools in Syria and Lebanon to provide primary school education to around 11,000 children of school age (5-14 years). In addition to education, the Munich-based association also has aid projects in these countries to help refugee families. Every day, around 50,000 people are supplied with essential resources such as water, food and medicines. The organisation also supports students in their further education by placing them in secondary schools or universities. This measure gives the children prospects for the future. At the same time, it enables them to fully exploit their skills and potential. This time, the funds will primarily be used for "Emergency aid: earthquake in Syria" project in order to be able to help affected people there as quickly and effectively as possible.
As part of its social commitment, Wanzl once again motivated its business partners to take part in the fundraising campaign at the turn of the year. The Leipheim-based company increased the donation to a substantial 10,000 euros and presented it in the form of a cheque to Melanie Schillinger, the Deputy Chairperson of the Board of Zeltschule e.V., on 23 February 2023. "We would like to thank Wanzl and the Lions Club Günzburg for their generous help. Zeltschule e. V. relies exclusively on support through donations, as we do not receive any state or institutional funding. The annual need is around 3.5 million euros, so every donation, big or small, is invaluable and means we can keep going. For example, one bottle of water currently costs 6 dollars in Lebanon. Therefore, any aid we receive is vital for the survival of the people there," explains Melanie Schillinger, who has since turned the voluntary school project into her main job.
"We are proud to have received such generous support from our business partners again this year. Working with Lions Hilfswerk is a matter close to our hearts, which is why we are delighted to be able to work together this year to help the Zeltschule organisation with its important work in Syria and Lebanon. The current situation in Syria is catastrophic due to the earthquake and many thousands of people have no shelter at all. We hope that our donation will help to replace the destroyed tents and thus improve the situation on the ground so that the people affected can have hope again," emphasised Bernd Renzhofer, Managing Director of the Wanzl Group of Companies, at the cheque presentation. Martin Wachter from the Lions Club International relief organisation and Georg Bucher, President of Lions Club Günzburg, are also pleased: "The Lions Club and the members of Zeltschule are grateful to be so generously supported by Wanzl. We hope that this great partnership will continue for many more years to come."
