The new Ice Stadium has become a beautiful jewel in the crown of Burgau, a small town in Swabia. Everything sparkles and glitters: the icy surface, bright window façades and the brand-new Galaxy Gate entrance system. It is immediately clear that investments have been made here, in the comfort, the atmosphere, and work carried out with a neighbourly sense of care – after all, the highly advanced entrance control system comes from the forge of innovation that is Wanzl, which has its registered office in Leipheim just 15 minutes away. "The name Wanzl stands for customer focus and first-rate premium products worldwide. When we received the quote for the Galaxy Gate, we immediately decided to go ahead with it," reports Werner Mihatsch, Head of the Building Authority for the Town of Burgau. Whether an ice princess, speed skater or a crack ice hockey player, visitors to the stadium value the convenient and reliable reception they arrive to. A combination scanner is integrated into the housing of the Galaxy Gate; it is able to read both RFID cards and barcodes. Each user swiftly scans their entrance pass and the arms open up straight away – and the guests are ready to enjoy the ice show. Mihatsch commented: "Long queuing times at the entrance give the impression of a lack of professionalism, and disrupt regular flows. With the Galaxy Gate, we guarantee each stadium visitor a structured and uncomplicated process for entering the site." The fully automatic inlet system offers another advantage: access is entirely autonomous, saving guests time, and saving the town important resources. Employees can take care of visitors' welfare where it really matters: in the arena.
Flexible planning for the perfect first impression
The Galaxy Gate fits beautifully into the inviting atmosphere of the arena. "The Ice Stadium is a meeting place for us. Schoolchildren learn to ice skate here, figure skaters perform pirouettes, ice hockey players chase pucks around the rink, and there are regular ice discos. Visitors should feel at ease when they are entering the rink, and be happy to return in future," comments Mihatsch, explaining the requirements made of the entrance area. With its appealing and timeless design, realised in premium stainless steel and glass, the Galaxy Gate creates precisely this feeling of welcome. At the same time, its compact design means that it radiates a sense of reliability.
To enable the elegant inlet system to fulfil its task effectively and attentively, the stainless steel housing hides a pure high-tech interior. "For entrance control, Wanzl offered us all the widely used release units such as an RFID card reader, barcode scanner and smartphone-based checking using OSDP interfaces (Open Supervice Device Protocol). We ultimately chose a practical combination scanner," commented Mihatsch, explaining an important decision during the planning phase. Flexibility and customised solutions truly set the Galaxy Gate apart. Variable dimensions and gate widths to be adapted to the building architecture make planning and installation easier. The result was an accessible entrance that was suitable for wheelchair users, pushchairs and visitors with bulky bags. Mihatsch recalls the collaboration with the highest of praise: "Wanzl was an outstanding partner from planning to delivery to installation. There was not a single hitch." The Galaxy Gate also functions smoothly, and the town of Burgau was delighted by the low maintenance costs and excellent customer service.
