Pick directly from the warehouse to the shipping box, put the delivery note inside and promptly dispatch. No repacking, saving time and costs. The Wanzl Pick and Pack trolley shows how it’s done at UVEX SAFETY Logistics GmbH.
Monday morning in the uvex safety logistics warehouse in Schwabach in Franconia: picking occupational health and safety products now runs like clockwork. Just like any other weekday. Easy to manoeuvre on five castor wheels, the Wanzl Pick and Pack trolleys rushes to pick orders for global B2B customers. Whether international automotive groups, global pharmaceutical corporations or owner-managed workshops – they all expect reliable occupational safety products from uvex safety logistics to protect their staff from head to toe. An order should arrive within two working days anywhere in Germany. “Up to 3,500 items are shipped daily from our warehouse,” says Dieter Kalb, managing director of uvex safety logistics.
It’s all about occupational health and safety
In the 15,000 m² warehouse with two connected high-bay warehouses, uvex safety logistics has around 14,000 occupational health and safety items in permanent stock. From safety shoes to goggles and hard hats, to gloves and work wear. The order structure is extremely diverse – everything from orders from major customers with up to 150 pallets to small orders, right through to a single pair of safety goggles. For the past three years, ten Wanzl Pick and Pack trolleys have been ready at the start of each day to pick customer orders. The Wanzl trolleys are used for small orders and for partial picking of large orders. Orders are picked directly into the box with the delivery note, then the box goes to the dispatch line. Very practical, no repacking. “Our first contact with Wanzl was at FachPack,” remembers Dieter Kalb.
Perfect for safety shoes
Wanzl configured the Pick and Pack trolley as a customised solution for uvex safety logistics. Three aluminium shelves with a load capacity of up to 30 kg each can be fitted right and left on both sides on the central, robust steel columns. Products are picked on the two centre shelves, fitted at an angle for ergonomic picking. Depending on the order volume, there is room here for four to ten shipping boxes. The largest box, 70x55x38 cm (length/width/height) has a capacity of 130 litres for picking safety shoes, which are placed upright. This means there is plenty of space above the centre shelf of the Pick and Pack trolley. Safety shoes are, after all, the most important product for uvex safety logistics. Since they are placed upright into the dispatch boxes with the product ID on the front, the customer can check that the shoe shipment is correct immediately after opening the box. The top shelf of the Pick and Pack trolley is reserved for repacking and for temporary picking, e.g. if a second shipping box is needed for a single order. The bottom shelf holds scrap cardboard for environmentally friendly disposal by the warehouse during picking.
Easy to change direction!
The Pick and Pack trolley is fitted with four original Wanzl swivel castors. That’s why steering and manoeuvring is so easy. The model can be turned on the spot using the 5th castor under the centre of the trolley, which allows it to change direction easily. Easy handling saves time and costs.
